Eugene Laverty failed to add to his seven championship points

Eugene Laverty narrowly missed out on adding to his World Championship points tally when he finished 16th in Sunday's Catalunya 250cc Grand Prix.

It means the 22-year-old from Toomebridge stays on seven points and in 20th place in the 2008 standings.

Marco Simoncelli from Italy won his second successive race to close the gap on championship leader Mika Kallio of Finland to three points.

Alvaro Bautista started on pole but was pipped by Simoncelli on the last lap.
