The first race in this year's Isle of Man TT takes place on Saturday |
Wednesday night's practice session for the Isle of Man TT has been cancelled because of adverse weather conditions. Bad weather also restricted Tuesday night's session and just a small number of riders attempted practice laps at speeds well down on Monday's times. So far, riders have only had an untimed practice on Saturday and a timed session on Monday to test their bikes. Further sessions are planned for Thursday and Friday nights when conditions are expected to be better. Guy Martin topped Superbike practice in Monday's session ahead of John McGuinness and Adrian Archibald. Martin's average lap speed of 126.02mph left him just ahead of McGuinness and Archibald with Cameron Donald, Bruce Anstey and Ryan Farquhar close behind. Anstey led the Superstock qualifying ahead of Martin and Donald. Thirteen-times TT winner McGuinness was fastest in Supersport practice with Conor Cummins next best. Archibald is a three-time former winner at the event while Farquhar has had two victories on the mountain course. Other Northern Ireland entrants include Stephen McKnight, Victor Gilmore, John Burrows, Davy Morgan and Liam Quinn. William and Michael Dunlop pulled out of the meeting after the death of their father Robert at the North West 200. The first practice session took place on Saturday night but was untimed. Farquhar will ride Kenny Harker's Superstock and Supersport machines after splitting with the McAdoo Racing team last week. Other men to watch at the event are Ian Hutchinson, Steve Plater and Keith Amor. Practice continues throughout this week with the TT Superbike race the first race on the programme on Saturday. Two Supersport events, a Superstock race, the Senior TT and a brace of sidecar races complete proceedings on the Mountain Course. A 250cc race and a 125cc class will be held on the 4.25-mile Southern 100 Billown course at Castletown and carry full TT status.
