Crutchlow overcomes injury to win

Cal Crutchlow, of the Louth-based HM Plant Honda team, defied injury to claim a victory in round three of the British Superbike Championship.

Racing at Brands Hatch with ruptured ankle ligaments, Crutchlow won race two, after finishing third behind Ducati's Shane Byrne in the first race.

Byrne now leads the standings by 44 points, with Crutchlow up to second.

Crutchlow's team-mate Leon Haslam took a fourth and a sixth place, having led race two before running off the track.

In Superstock, Lincoln's Lee Jackson was sixth on the NCT Vanfit Yamaha, but Peter Hickman failed to finish after crashing twice.

In the first incident Hickman collided with Christian Elkin, causing the race to be red flagged.

The Alford racer was able to get back to the pits to repair the Ultimate Racing Yamaha and take the restart, but a brake problem on lap seven saw him again hit Elkin, putting both out of the race.

"I started dead last which is always dangerous because you are in the mix with everybody," said Hickman.

"Luckily we are both OK, which is more than I can say for the bikes which are badly damaged."
