Cameron Donald in action during the 2007 Mid-Antrim races |
The Mid-Antrim 150 road races will not be held in 2008 because of a dispute between the organisers and the sport's governing body. Norman Gordon, of the Mid-Antrim Club, said members had become disheartened in their dealings with the Motorcycle Union of Ireland.
The races were held in early August over the Clough circuit at Ballymena.
The loss of the popular meeting will be a huge blow to road racing supporters in Northern Ireland.
It leaves just four national road races on the calendar in Northern Ireland, the Cookstown 100, the Tandragee 100, the Bush road races and the Dundrod 150 which forms part of Ulster Grand Prix week.
The Temple 100 and the Carrowdore 100 have dropped from the local calendar in recent years.
Northern Ireland also hosts two international events, the North-West 200 and Ulster Grand Prix.
Gordon, former clerk of the course, said it was all down to a row with the MCUI over health and safety issues.
"All we wanted to do was carry out the work on the ground and run the meeting to the best of our ability," he said.
"But there was a lot of nit-picking going on. We were going to meetings and asking questions and we just came away baffled.
"I do not feel I can work with these people any longer. It just became disheartening.
"It is sad. Believe me, I take no delight in the decision which has been reached."
