Injured Rea sidelined for months

Jonathan Rea hopes to be back on his bike in four months
Jonathan Rea hopes to be back on his bike in four months despite sustaining a serious knee injury at Mallory Park last weekend.

Rea came off his machine in the warm-up for the Race of the Year, just a day after a record-breaking triumph at the Sunflower meeting in County Down.

"It is a serious knee injury, one which puts rugby players out for six months," said the 19-year-old from Ballyclare.

"But with the help of the medical staff I hope to be back on my bike in four."

Rea was fourth overall in the British Superbike Championship and next year will move up to the main Honda team, linking up with Japan's Ryuichi Kiyonari.
