Toseland is currently in his sixth year in World Superbikes |
Former World Superbikes champion James Toseland has decided to stay in the competition next year rather than moving up to MotoGP. The 25-year-old Ten Kate Honda rider said he did want to compete in MotoGP but was prepared to bide his time.
"After careful consideration I would like to reclaim the Superbike crown for Honda and Ten Kate," said a statement on his website.
"I enjoy working with the team and I am therefore happy to wait one more year."
Toseland became the category's youngest champion when he won the title in 2004 with Ducati.
The following year he finished fourth, before his move to Honda, and he currently lies second in this year's standings behind runaway leader Troy Bayliss.
"The Ten Kate Honda has been fantastic this year and the team is a highly professional outfit," he said.
"After a strong winter testing programme and development of the Electronic Management System, the bike will put me in a strong position for next year's championship."
