Bruce Anstey raced to a superstock win on the mountain course |
New Zealand rider Bruce Anstey claimed his fifth Isle of Man TT win on Monday with victory in the superstock race. The 36-year-old came in eight seconds ahead of young English competitor Ian Hutchinson with Welshman Jason Griffiths completing the podium places.
Lincolnshire's Guy Martin was fourth while pre-race favourite John McGuinness was back in fifth place.
Ulster-based Welshman Ian Lougher was sixth and Adrian Archibald was the best placed Northern Ireland rider in 11th.
Anstey's win made up for the disappointment of being forced out of Saturday's superbike race after just one lap.
"The week started off badly - to be honest I was gutted," said Anstey, who was riding for the Northern Ireland based TAS Suzuki team.
"Winning today has made up for that and now I feel I am back on track.
"I got off to a fast first lap and that's the way you've got to do it these days because the race can be won or lost on the first lap.
"But Ian and I were dead level after the pitstop and I was quite surprised by that - I thought the Kawasaki boys would have difficulty getting fuel into their bike but in fact it was just the opposite.
"I knew I there was always more to come from me though."
The Manx crew of Nick Crowe and Darren Hope won Monday's Sidecar A race by 47 seconds from Steve Norbury and Scott Parnell, with Simon Neary and Stuart Bond third.
