Corser is aiming to repeat his 2005 domination of Valencia |
Troy Corser took pole position for Sunday's third round of the World Superbikes Championship in Valencia. Defending champion Corser posted the fastest lap in qualifying on Saturday, completing the course in one minute, 34.992 seconds.
The Alstare Corona Suzuki rider was just 0.183 seconds faster than Troy Bayliss on his Ducati.
Italy's Lorenzo Lanzi claimed the third fastest time of 1:35.203, while Briton James Toseland struggled to ninth.
It was left to Chris Walker to lead the British charge with 1:35.452 to take seventh on his Kawasaki, while Craig Jones was 28th.
Bayliss goes into the races holding a one-point advantage in the championship standings over Toseland on his Ducati Xerox machine, but both will be wary of Corser who is third in the standings.
Corser dominated the Valencia race weekend last year, scoring pole, double wins and double fastest lap.
