Michael Rutter finished fifth and third at Snetterton |
Michael Rutter defied a broken collarbone to increase his lead in the British Superbike Championship after round eight at Snetterton. Ryuichi Kiyonari and Gregorio Lavilla took the victories, but it was HM Plant Honda rider Rutter who was the hero after crashing heavily in qualifying.
"I broke one collarbone and think the other has been pushed out a bit," he said after finishing fifth and third.
Rutter increased his lead over team-mate Kiyonari to 45 points.
"It's been a hard weekend - I had a bit of crash that left me sore and beat up and then in the first race had a problem with the quick shift gear change," said Rutter.
"It is not easy to ride this circuit without that working. I was disappointed not to finish on the podium in the first race, but did my best.
"In the second I was backing into the corners a bit too much, riding a bit too rigid, maybe trying too hard, but I can't complain."
Kiyonari won the first race by eight seconds from Leon Haslam on the Airwaves Ducati.
Lavilla, also on an Airwaves Ducati, took the race two win after getting the better of both Rutter and Michael Laverty.
