Kiyonari is closing in on Rutter |
Ryuichi Kiyonari closed the gap on series leader Michael Rutter with two British Superbike wins at Knockhill. The Japanese rider pushed his HM Plant Honda team-mate into second place in race one at the Scottish circuit and repeated the feat in race two.
Honda's Michael Laverty took third in the first race, while French Airwaves Ducati rider Gregorio Lavilla finished behind Rutter in the second.
Rutter (275 points) now leads Kiyonari by 43 points, with Lavilla on 216.
Kiyonari charged clear from his pole position in each of the 30-lap races,
winning the first by 12 seconds, and the second by seven seconds.
He maintained afterwards: "It was very hard for me.
"Michael is riding fast and well, so it was necessary for me to get away and
ride hard and well to keep clear of him."
Kiyonari has now won eight races this season, and Rutter admitted: "I have to
do something about him.
"I can't let him keep getting away like this and need to start winning some
races."
