Rutter claimed a second and a first place at Oulton Park last time out |
Championship leader Michael Rutter set a new lap record during practice for the fifth round of the British Superbikes at Mondello Park in Dublin. The HM Plant Honda rider knocked three quarters of a second off the old record with a time of one minute 39.990 secs.
He was almost a second ahead of Glen Richards while Leon Haslam finished with the third-fastest time.
"I am feeling confident that I can build on the three vital wins I have enjoyed recently," said Rutter.
"It is important for me to focus on achieving the best results that I can to maintain my advantage in the championship."
Rutter currently leads the rider championship by 56 points from Airwaves Ducati rider Gregorio Lavilla, who could only set the 12th-fastest time.
