Haydon is ooking for a ride after seeing Lavilla steal his thunder |
The Airwaves Ducati team have parted company with rider James Haydon after just two rounds of the 2005 British Superbikes Championship. The team announced ahead of round three at Mallory Park on 24 April that Haydon "would stand down for the rest of the season... for the good of the team".
Haydon missed the start of the campaign with a hand injury and Spain's Gregorio Lavilla came in to take his place.
He will continue to ride the Ducati 999F04 alongside Leon Haslam.
Airwaves Ducati have made a good start in Haydon's absence, and are currently second in the championship, with four podium finishes in four races.
Team manager, Colin Wright, said: "The last couple of weeks have not been an easy time for all involved but the team are extremely grateful to James for standing down and allowing Gregorio to continue riding.
"We appreciate that this was the hardest of decisions for him to make and are pleased to confirm that James will be with us at Mallory Park supporting the team.
"We are fully focused on continuing the excellent progress we've made in the first two rounds and are looking forward to the rest of the season."
Haydon said: "This was a very difficult decision to make but I wish the team all the best for the rest of the season."
