Renolds broke his leg in four places |
British Superbike champion John Reynolds is struggling to be fit in time for the first race of the season. The 39-year-old Briton broke his right leg in testing in February and is far from certain to race at Brands Hatch on Easter Monday (28 March).
He will undergo X-rays on Friday, which could decide whether or not he will race at the Kent circuit.
"We've done everything we can to get him back for the first round," said Rizla Suzuki team boss Robert Wicks.
Reynolds, who broke his leg in four places, has been undergoing treatment in a hyperbaric chamber as well as having laser therapy.
"It's really a question of waiting to see if he's been able to heal within 38 days," added Wicks.
"To put it into perspective, if he was a footballer he'd be out for an entire season.
"We're asking him to get on a motorcycle and run at 200mph round one of the toughest and most technical tracks in the country.
"It's a big ask, but he's a tough guy and he's come back from injury very well before so he's got a good chance.
"John is beyond 100% sorted from the mental side. It's really just a question of the bone knitting now.
"There is still an enormous amount of stress and load that goes through a leg when you try and corner a motorcycle at the speeds you do."
