Vermuelen closed the gap on championship leader Troy Corser |
Australia's Chris Vermeulen claimed a first and second place at Lausitz in Germany in the latest two rounds of the World Superbike Championship. Honda rider Vermuelen followed up his double win in Assen by beating Noryuki Haga and Troy Corser in the opening race, which was cut short to 20 laps.
Lorenzo Lanzi, who started the first race on pole, beat Vermeuelen into second in round two, with Haga third.
Vermuelen now trails fellow Australian Corser by 60 points in the standings.
With two rounds of the championhip remaining, at Imola and Magny Cours, the momentum is with Vermuelen, but he says championship leader Corser still has the advantage.
"I may have taken 50 points off Troy in the last two rounds but, to win the title, I have to take another 60 in the last two," he said.
"It's really Troy's championship to lose more than anything, so I'll just keep concentrating on race wins and leave it to him."
