Loris Capirossi was expected to figure strongly in 2004 after winning a race in Ducati's debut the year before. But Ducati's fading form meant he was unable to win a race and he slipped to ninth in the overall standings. It was all such a change from 2003, when the former 250cc and 125cc world champion marked his switch from Honda by claiming six podiums. He topped that in Catalunya by giving Ducati their first win, going on to lead the team to second place overall.
