Telefonica Movistar hoped to come out of the shadow of fellow Honda works team Repsol in 2004. Telefonica lead rider Sete Gibernau was Valentino Rossi's closest rival last year and was be hoping to benefit from the Italian's defection to Yamaha. But while Gibernau continued to lead the Honda challenge, it is clear that the manufacturer had underestimated just how good Rossi was. So Telefonica were forced to follow in his wheeltracks once again.
