Ian Lougher leads Ryan Farquhar during the Regal 600 |
Ryan Farquhar has announced he plans to appeal against his disqualification from Saturday's Regal 600cc race at the North-West 200.
The Dungannon rider was first past the post but was later disqualified for allegedly passing Ian Lougher during the fourth and final lap.
It made the Dungannon rider the first in North-West history to be disqualified from a race.
Stewards upheld a protest by second-placed Ian Lougher.
He claimed Farquhar initiated an overtaking manoeuvre on the last lap under a yellow flag.
Following a lengthy meeting the stewards considered Farquhar's move as dangerous and fined him 100 in addition to his disqualification.
"This is a matter I will not let go of. I intend to pursue it all the way," said Farquhar.
"I did not see a yellow flag throughout the race."
Meanwhile, North-West officials are to review all aspects of racing at the event.
Saturday's meeting was abandoned before the feature race of the day after bad weather and several incidents had delayed the programme.
"We may consider afternoon practices and the possibility of closing the roads earlier on race day," said Mervyn Whyte, clerk of the course.
