| Ukawa links up with Biaggi ![]() Ukawa is Honda Racing Corporation's official rider Tohru Ukawa has set his sights on becoming Japan's first MotoGP world champion after agreeing a deal to join the Pramac Honda team in 2003. Ukawa, who partnered world champion Valentino Rossi last season, has left the Repsol Honda squad to join up with the team run by former champion Sito Pons.
The Japanese rider, who took third place in the championship, will partner Max Biaggi. Ukawa's move brings Pons closer to bike manufacturer Honda. Last season, Pons' West Honda team faced an uphill battle as they were forced to make do with out-of-date two-stroke machines while Rossi powered to victory on a four-stroke Honda. But Honda Racing Corporation have again named Ukawa as their official rider for 2003, and that should help Pramac Honda keep pace with their rivals. "It is a great honour for me to continue my close relationship with HRC as their official rider and I am grateful for them for giving me the opportunity to ride in this team," said Ukawa. "I am looking forward to partnering Max Biaggi and I am sure that the competition between us will be positive for the team." | See also: 12 Nov 02 | Motorbikes 08 Nov 02 | Motorbikes 06 Nov 02 | Motorbikes Top Motorbikes stories now: Links to more Motorbikes stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
