The layout of the Nurburgring changed two years ago in an attempt to spice up the spectacle provided by the circuit.

The changes did provide more overtaking opportunities - the track used until 2001 was notorious for the difficulty of racing.

But the three tight corners that were added at the end of the pit straight did little to enhance the track's challenge for the drivers.
