McLaren's Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton believe getting ahead of Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel at the start is the key to beating the championship leader in this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix and beyond.

F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has heaped praise on Pirelli for being daring enough to produce tyres that degrade quickly, saying they are "90%" responsible for the change in spectacle in the 2011 F1 season. Pirelli's manufacturing of tyres that are only good for 15-25 laps has led to teams changing their strategies.

Ecclestone also cast doubt over the potential implementation of turbo engines by 2013, saying: "People want to look at the race because they enjoy the atmosphere, see fast cars and hear the noise of the engines. The incentive will disappear with these four-cylinder turbos."

Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher has admitted he might have to change his approach in order to achieve his goals this season. The German admitted he was not happy with his 12th place finish at the Turkish Grand two weeks ago, but insists his mood ahead of this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix "is no different to any other event".

Rubens Barrichello has said that he expects Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix to see drivers making a minimum of four stops. The Williams driver was speaking after Friday's practice sessions in Spain, during which his team tested out the new Pirelli hard compound tyre which has been designed to last for a few extra laps and increase the differential between hard and soft tyres.

Anthony Davidson is missing this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix after the 5 live analyst became a father this week but he seems to be finding a good balance between fatherhood and Formula 1. He reports: "Interested to see if my newborn's ears prick up to the sound of screaming V8's tomorrow for quali! Rather than him just screaming..."
