Rubens Barrichello has picked up seven points in his Williams-Cosworth |
Cosworth are expecting competition from Renault to supply engines to the 13th team on next year's Formula 1 grid. British-based Cosworth currently powers four teams and would also have supplied USF1 in 2010 had the American team not withdrawn with financial problems. Renault, which powers its own team and Red Bull, have indicated that they are looking for a third team to supply. "It is probably a Cosworth-Renault competition to supply the 13th team," said Cosworth manager Mark Gallagher. Cosworth supplies engines for Williams, Lotus, Hispania Racing and Virgin Racing, but with Renault seeking a third team speculation was triggered that they could lose Williams or Lotus. However, Gallagher has suggested all four will stay with his team and that it would be feasible to work with a fifth since they would have supplied USF1. | 606: DEBATE |
"It certainly wouldn't be a problem to step up to the mark again and do it next season," added Gallagher. "The obvious solution [for Renault] is actually the 13th team that is coming into Formula 1." F1's governing body the FIA has sought applications to fill the 13th and final slot on the grid, unless anyone else pulls out, after a planned USF1 entry failed to materialise this year.
