Briatore says Renault can thrive without Alonso

The Spaniard has now joined McLaren after helping Renault to back-to-back driver and constructors' titles.

"There is a great motivation in beginning a new era and proving that the strength of Renault is about more than one person," Briatore said.

"Leading this amazing group of people is what motivates me to continue and tackle the new challenges ahead."

Critics are predicting a season of struggle for the French team after Alonso's departure.

Established driver Giancarlo Fisichella will lead Renault's charge alongside unproven Finnish newcomer Heikki Kovalainen.

Renault will also be without tyre suppliers Michelin following F1's decision to revert to a sole manufacturer, with Bridgestone scooping the deal.

But Briatore told www.formula1.com: "The people saying we will not continue our success in 2007 are the same ones who said we had won the title in Canada, or that Ferrari had won by Monza.

"They are making quick judgments, not looking at the facts. They see unknowns, where we see people we know and logical decisions."

Briatore added he never considered quitting this year, despite undergoing surgery to remove a kidney tumour in August.

"It changes your perspective on life, but then I looked in our team and found inspiration," he said.
