Fisichella believes he can raise his game at Renault next year |
Renault's Giancarlo Fisichella believes he can fight for the world title next season following world champion Fernando Alonso's defection to McLaren. The Italian, who has won just two races while Alonso took back-to-back titles in 2005-6, will be partnered by Finnish rookie Heikki Kovalainen next year.
"I'm confident of winning the world championship," he told Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.
"I will be a main player along with (Ferrari's Kimi) Raikkonen and Alonso."
Fisichella believes that his experience with Renault will stand him in good stead now he is out of Alonso's shadow.
"I'm aware that next year I will have at my disposal a great car and a great team, who I've already worked with for two years so I know them well."
