Button's team had not anticipated a call to the weigh bridge |
Jenson Button said he was "massively disappointed" after qualifying only 19th fastest for the British Grand Prix but still hopes for a points finish. Button posted a slow time on his first qualifying run and was then called to the weigh bridge, which did not leave enough time for a second attempt.
"Everyone wants to do well in their home race and I could have done so much better," said the Honda driver.
"I believe points are possible. I'll do everything I can to get back up there."
The 26-year-old added: "I'm obviously massively disappointed for myself, the team and all of the fans.
"My first run wasn't quick enough because we had quite low grip. If the car isn't working well on the first run, you don't want to push it to the limit because the penalty for going off the track and not completing a lap is so high.

"The circuit was improving massively all the time and we thought we would get a second chance to do a run, but then I got called on to the weigh bridge and that effectively finished my session.
"Maybe we should have gone out a bit earlier so we would have had time if we got weighed. But we didn't expect to get weighed."
The Briton, who must now start 19th on the grid, is still hoping to make the top 10 and admitted he always a podium finish was beyond him.
"I expected a lot more. It's a big disappointment but I didn't think we could fight for a podium if we started in the top six," he said.
In contrast, team-mate Rubens Barrichello will start on the third row after finishing sixth-fastest in qualifying.
"We achieved our target this afternoon which was to put the car in the top six," said the Brazilian.
