Coulthard's Monaco podium was rapturously received by his team |
Red Bull chief Christian Horner has dropped a strong hint that David Coulthard will retain his place with the team next year. Coulthard, 35, handed the team their first podium finish when he took third place in Sunday's Monaco Grand Prix.
"I'm very happy with the job that he's doing and he and I get along very well," said Horner.
"If a relationship's working and it's right, then why stop it? He's very keen to be part of the team going forward."
Horner said Red Bull would not make any decision on their 2007 drivers until later this summer.
Coulthard confirmed he is keen to stay on at Red Bull for 2007, particularly now former McLaren designer Adrian Newey has come on board and will lead design on the new car.
"I think results, naturally, don't do any harm but the reality is that the conversations regarding next year are ongoing and have been and it is quite clear what my intention is," said Coulthard.
"In a matter of course there will be an announcement."
Coulthard's third place in Monaco lifted the team level with seventh-placed Toyota on eight points in the constructors' championship and they are just two behind former champions Williams.
