Schumacher finished fifth in the Malaysian Grand Prix |
Ralf Schumacher says Toyota's first podium finish in Formula One is just the start for the Japanese carmaker. Jarno Trulli finished second in Malaysia behind Fernando Alonso on Sunday and Schumacher is adamant the performance was not a fluke.
"Talking about the competitiveness of the car, you can't make performance up. It's definitely there," he said.
"We have a good plan and if we stick to it, there is no reason why we shouldn't be in decent form for the whole year."
While Trulli was battling at the front in Malaysia, Schumacher finished fifth after a clash with Mark Webber's Williams damaged his car.
But the German was content to score points which leave Toyota in by far their highest ever position in the constructors' championship.
"In the end, four points for fifth place was what I came away with, but it helped to put us into second place in the constructors' championship," said the German.
"If anyone had offered us that scenario at the beginning of the season, we'd have taken it."
