The Alfa Romeo 158 with which Giuseppe Farina won the first Formula One world championship in 1950 was an archetypal blood-and-thunder car of its age.

Enzo Ferrari considered racing cars to be engines on wheels, and that was certainly the case with the 158.

Its huge bonnet housed a super-charged, eight-cylinder-in-line 1.5-litre engine that pumped out around 370bhp.
