McLaren boss Ron Dennis is confident Juan Pablo Montoya will become a better driver with their team next season. Montoya, who on Sunday in Brazil won his first Grand Prix since August 2003, has left Williams to pair up with Kimi Raikkonen at McLaren.
"Juan Pablo's career is still on the up," said Dennis. "He will be an even better driver in our team than he has been so far.
"I am firmly convinced we will get the best out of him which is yet to come."
Montoya switched to Williams in 2001 after a successful Cart championship career in America.
But the Colombian has been unable to fully translate that success in Formula One.
The 29-year-old's commitment, fitness and dedication to the sport has been questioned.
Nonetheless, Dennis is certain McLaren is the right environment to nurture Montoya's natural talents. "It's very apparent to us that Juan Pablo is very receptive to our thinking and to our advice," said Dennis.
"We do not tell drivers what to do; we help drivers have a better understanding of why change or asking them to change is in their interests.
"They can measure whether it has made them a better racing driver or not."
Raikkonen was second behind Montoya in Interlagos on Sunday and Dennis is looking forward to more one-twos from the McLaren pair. "I'm just delighted that we've got two great drivers next year," he said.
"There are obviously high expectations but I don't think that's a problem. We can live with that."
