Michelin have been outdone by Bridgestone this season |
Tyre company Michelin has voiced its opposition to the new Formula One rules to be introduced by 2008. Michelin, which supplies Williams, Renault, BAR and McLaren, does not agree with the idea to restrict the sport to a single tyre supplier.
F1 boss Max Mosley has proposed the idea as a way of reducing costs and cornering speeds.
As a result, Michelin said it would propose "a number of alternative solutions" to the problem.
A statement said Michelin did not think a single tyre supplier was a "satisfactory solution to reduce costs while maintaining the spirit of competition".
The company said it would consult the teams it supplies before "making its position known" on the issue.
That is believed to be an indication that Michelin is considering pulling out of F1 as a result of the proposals.
