1 Montoya Major incidents (All times BST): 1308: Montoya takes pole ahead of Michael Schumacher as the two Williams do not improve, and David Coulthard stays in seventh place on the grid for Sunday's race. 1305: The session resumes with 10 cars streaming out of the pits for a final flying lap. 1258: Takuma Sato (Jordan) and Kimi Raikkonen (McLaren) collide and spin off, bringing a red flag and a halt to the session with 2:14 remaining. 1256: The last throw of the dice from Ferrari sees Michael Schumacher move up into second with a 1:20.502, while Barrichello fails to improve. Ralf Schumacher is the only man who can now displace Montoya. 1253: Michael Schumacher is ahead of Montoya after the first section but loses three tenths to stay third. 1252: Ralf Schumacher cannot match his earlier time but has one lap remaining, and Montoya overhauls his team-mate with a blistering 1:20.264 - the fastest lap ever in F1. 1245: Barrichello fails to improve after another lap while David Coulthard hauls himself into sixth with 1:21.803. 1241: The expected improvement from Williams is materialising as Montoya goes round in 1:20.715 to go second behind team-mate Ralf Schumacher. 1239: Michael Schumacher goes two tenths faster, but his brother Ralf sets a fantastic time of 1:20.542 to go into provisional pole. 1235: A superb effort from Jacques Villeneuve takes BAR into the top six on 1:21.126, but Raikkonen immediately edges him into seventh. 1233: After a brief return to the pits, Barrichello finally completes a lap and moves into third with a time of 1:21.225. 1225: Michael Schumacher responds immediately with a second straight flying lap of 1:21.016 to head the standings. 1223: Rubens Barrichello runs wide on a corner early in his first flying lap, while Michael Schumacher fails to match Juan Pablo Montoya's time of 1:21.162 - a lap record. 1221: The big guns enter the fray, with both McLarens and Ferraris among 10 cars out on the circuit. 1211: Australian Mark Webber is the first man out on the track in the Minardi, and sets his best time of the weekend so far at 1:24.960. 1200: Qualifying is under way, with the early action taking place outside the Ferrari garage as the drivers fight their way through a crowd of photographers. |
