Workington Comets boss Keith Denham has revealed the cost of stewarding continues to prove a stumbling block in the future of speedway in the town. The speedway club have rented Derwent Park from landlords Workington Town since 1987 although negotiations regarding a new deal have stalled. "No other track pays the amount of money we do for stewards," said Denham. "Last year I was paying over £1,600 at each home meeting for rent and stewards and I'm looking for that to be halved." Denham added: "Dave [Bowden - rugby league club chairman] has been very sympathetic and appreciates how difficult it is in this day and age to keep a professional sport running. "If it wasn't for the stewarding aspect I think we would have done a deal."
