Caine finished sixth and third at Brands Hatch |
Newmarket's Michael Caine was left to rue a missed opportunity in the final round of the Porsche Carerra Cup. Title rival Tim Harvey secured the championship despite a puncture in race two, leaving Caine, 41, to bemoan the spin that left him sixth in race one. Caine, who came third in race two at Brands Hatch, told BBC Radio Suffolk: "It's what could have been I guess. "Harvey got a puncture today [Sunday]. We went off Saturday and he won the championship." He added: "It's disappointing to see Harvey get a puncture in the last race, but there you go." Despite losing out on the title Caine was feeling upbeat after a campaign that saw him secure seven race wins and his backers Motorbase Performance take the team championship. | I've got a Mondeo Estate I need to sell and I want to make sure Harvey puts some weight on through the winter |
"Motorbase got the team championship, which is great, and we'll live to fight another day," he said. "I've loved every minute of it, when you race with Motorbase you love every minute of it. "It's a great environment and at the end of the day we're never going to be Formula One drivers, we come here to enjoy it." The Suffolk driver remained coy on his future in the sport though. When asked about preparations for next season he joked: "I've got a Mondeo Estate I need to sell and I want to make sure Harvey puts some weight on through the winter."
