Newcomers gain experience as MGP gets under way

MGP Practice
More than 40 newcomers completed a controlled lap on Saturday

The opening practice session of the 2010 Manx Grand Prix got under way on Saturday evening.

The session began with all newcomers undertaking a speed controlled lap, under the guidance of travelling marshals and experienced riders.

Chris Palmer and Carolyn Sells were among the riders passing on their course knowledge.

Once the newcomers were through Sulby, the Senior, Junior and Lightweight machines went out.

The Classic and Post Classic machines followed at 1915 BST.

In total, 265 bikes took part in the opening session, which was flagged shortly before the scheduled finish.

Finland's Osmo Partti was reported OK following an accident at Sulby Bridge and Colin Martin from Rayleigh was conscious and taken by Airmed to Nobles Hospital following an incident at Cruickshanks.

The first timed practice will take place on Monday evening and is scheduled to start at 1820 BST.
