English lead his side to a 46-44 win over Birmingham to clinch the trophy |
Newcastle Diamonds team boss George English says his side are now aiming for the treble after clinching the Premier Trophy on Wednesday. Diamonds defeated Birmingham Brummies over two legs to win the title, and still have the Premier League and Knock-Out Cup to contest. English told BBC Look North: "We're major contenders in league and cup. "We said at the start of the season that we wanted to be competitive in everything and we're doing that." The success is Diamonds' first silverware since 2001, and their first Premier Trophy success since 1997. And English believes the triumph is justification for his and others hard work at Newcastle. "It's been overdue, we struggle with sponsorship in these parts and have to work hard to keep the sport going. "Last night was a great reward for those years of hardship."
