Stead missed out on the GB team in 2009 |
Swindon rider Simon Stead says he deserves his place in the Great Britain World Cup team. Stead has been recalled to the squad after missing out last year. The 28-year-old has been in great form this season and top scored again for the Robins in their defeat at Peterborough last week. He told BBC Wiltshire: "I think I deserve it and I'm there on merit this year. We'll be going there to give it our best shot." He added: "I'm very proud. It's such an honour representing your country regardless of what kind of competition you're in." Stead joins Scott Nicholls, Chris Harris, Lee Richardson and Tai Woffinden in the GB squad. They face Australia, Sweden and Finland at King's Lynn on Monday, 26 July.
