Birmingham Brummies will face Newcastle in the Premier Trophy final after overcoming a 13-point first leg deficit against the Rye House Rockets.

The Brummies overwhelmed their visitors 59-28 at Perry Barr, taking advantage of the Rockets injury problems.

Already without Linus Sundstrom after a crash in Sweden, the Rockets then lost Luke Bowen to a fall in heat five.

Birmingham drew the tie level by heat eight, and chalked up nine 5-1 race victories over the course of the night.

Australian skipper Jason Lyons led the Brummies scoring with 12 points, backed up by Richard Sweetman (11), Aaron Summers (nine) and Steve Johnston (nine).

Tonight is awesome - this is probably my best night in speedway

But the rider of the night was 18-year old reserve Kyle Newman who claimed eight points (paid 12) from his five rides on the biggest night of his career so far.

"Tonight is awesome. I had a good one at Somerset but this is probably my best night in speedway," Newman told BBC WM.

"If I hadn't crashed in my first ride I could possibly have got a paid maximum, but that's speedway.

"All the lads were awesome, and Johnno in my first scoring race rode me round lovely and just gave me the confidence to go on for the rest of the night."

Jordan Frampton top-scored for Rye House with 10, reserve Kyle Hughes adding eight.

Newman continued: "I've had a couple of meetings where I haven't done too well, confidence drifting a little bit, but I said no, this is it, I forced myself to have a good one.

"I got myself going again, hopefully this will steamroll for many more matches."

Newman has a busy schedule ahead, and is insisting on riding for the Brummies at Somerset on Friday in the Knockout Cup before an overnight van ride to Germany for the World Under-21 semi-final.

"We'll be there. If I miss the World Under-21s, I miss it. I'm 18, I've got two more years and I feel confident I can push for it again next year.

"My priorities are with the Brummies and I want to be riding every meeting I can."
