Ryan Farquhar celebrates after winning the Open race at Cookstown |
Ryan Farquhar will miss Saturday's Bush road races as the row over permission to ride his 450 single Kawasaki in the 125cc class rumbles on. Farquhar has threatened to boycott the remainder of the Irish national road racing season over the issue. "I had a discussion with George Young, the clerk-of-the-course, on Friday and he fully backed me," said Farquhar. "The Motor Cycle Union of Ireland have refused to back down and I will fight them on it purely on principle." "I brought the bikes with me to the meeting and explained the issues I had. "It's not about money - it's about principle. Any prizemoney I would have won I'd have been happy to donate to charity. "It's a pity for everyone really - the organisers, myself, the sponsors and the fans, but, at the end of the day, the MCUI has overruled the club." Farquhar took victory in the class at the Cookstown 100 races but was later excluded from the results and is currently appealing that decision. "I spent money on this bike as I was told they were introducing a new class and the MCUI guidelines were set out. "In my opinion, they've changed the rules again and I feel I'm being discriminated against." "The guidelines were clearly set out last winter and I then built the bike to the appropriate regulations using my own money and there was no problem during the short circuit races at Easter," said the Irish national road race champion. "There was no mention of 450s in the guidelines for the Cookstown 100 but they accepted my entry. "After I won, some of the 125 riders started moaning and I've appealed my exclusion from the results and that appeal is ongoing. "I put a lot of money and effort into this bike and I'm fed up being discriminated against."
