Ryan Farquhar celebrates after winning the Open race at Cookstown |
Ryan Farquhar has threatened to boycott the remainder of the Irish national road racing season if he cannot ride his 450 single in 125cc races. Farquhar took victory in the class at the Cookstown 100 races but was later excluded from the results and is currently appealing that decision. "I spent money on this bike as I was told they were introducing a new class and the MCUI guidelines were set out. "They've changed the rules again and I feel I'm being discriminated against." "The guidelines were clearly set out last winter and I then built the bike using my own money and there was no problem during the short circuit races at Easter," said the Irish national road race champion. "There was no mention of 450s in the guidelines for the Cookstown 100 but they accepted my entry. "After I won, some of the 125 riders started moaning and I've appealed my exclusion from the results and that appeal is ongoing. "I put a lot of money and effort into this bike and I'm fed up being discriminated against. "Now they say that I can ride in a separate class behind the 125s, starting 30 seconds back, but the prize money they are offering is even worse than it is for the 125s. "Unless I can come to a race and ride all of my four bikes, I won't be riding at all," added Farquhar.
