Poole Pirates pull off Ward coup

Darcy Ward
Ward also rides for Polish side Torun

Poole Pirates have signed world under-21 champion Darcy Ward from King's Lynn for a club record fee.

Swindon had been hoping to sign the 17-year-old, who became the youngest ever under-21 champion last month.

Pirates owner Matt Ford told the club website: "The capture of Darcy represents one of the biggest signings in the club's history.

"Along with Chris [Holder] I hope they will formulate the Pirates future for the next 10 years."

He continued: "He is the one everyone wanted so I hope I have delivered an early Christmas present to all those fans who have stood by us during those dark days of the 2009 season.

"I am never one to disclose details of fees paid but I can assure the fans that I had to pay the biggest transfer fee of the club's history to secure Darcy and March now can't come soon enough."
