Mervyn Whyte is pondering his future as clerk of the course

North West 200 clerk of the course Mervyn Whyte is considering stepping down because of the heavy workload involved in running the event.

"I have been looking at my position in relation to the North West 200 for a couple of years," said Whyte.

"It is a full-time job, 24 hours a day and you just never get the North West 200 out of your system.

"I will be looking at it very closely and will make a decision on what I am doing in a few weeks time."

Cookstown rider Mark Young died following a crash at Saturday's meeting, which was curtailed because of dangerous conditions.

John Anderton from Antrim remains critically ill after crashing in practice last week.

Whyte was recently appointed as MCRCB Chief Steward for the 2009 ViSK British Superbike Championship.
