Ryan Farquhar got his road race season off to a winning start |
Ryan Farquhar and Michael Pearson were on winning form at Sunday's Scarborough Spring Road Races at Oliver's Mount. Farquhar was the overall winner of the Ian Watson Trophy after winning race one from Pearson and then finishing second to Guy Martin in race two. Farquhar also won the first Supertwins race in his debut in the class but was edged out by David Bell in race two. Pearson won both Supersport 600cc races and was third overall in the Ian Watson Trophy standings. Farquhar began the day well by winning the first Superbike heat while Pearson was third in the second heat which was won by Dromore-based Welshman Ian Lougher. Lougher won the opening 125cc race ahead of Chris Palmer and Ballymoney's William Dunlop. Pearson then took his first success of the day in the first 600 race with the result declared after two laps after Farquhar and Lougher came off without injury. Lougher then won the 250 opener, with Palmer second and Dunlop fifth. Farquhar took his maiden Supertwins victory and followed that up by winning the Ian Watson Cup first leg. Palmer won the second 125 joust and the second 250 event while Pearson made it a 600 double. Farquhar did not take part in the second 600 race because of damage to his machine while Lougher was a non-starter as he nursed a slight leg injury. Bell edged out Farquhar in the second Supertwins and then Guy Martin came home ahead of Farquhar and Pearson in the second Ian Watson Trophy race. Farquhar was the overall winner, with Martin second and Pearson third. Among the other Irish competitors, Damien Mulleady had a fourth and a sixth place finish, Andrew Neill claimed a fifth spot and David Guiney a sixth in the 250s.
