Christodoulou in Formula 3 switch

Riki Christodoulou
Christodoulou is aiming to win the Formula 3 title at the first attempt.

Sutton Coldfield driver Riki Christodoulou has confirmed he will race in Formula 3 International series this season.

Christodoulou, 20, has made the step up after finishing fifth in the Formula Renault Championship in 2008.

"My aim is to win the F3 Championship title at my first attempt. I know I have the ability," Christodoulou said.

"It's an established breeding ground for up-and-coming Formula One drivers. I can't wait to make my debut."

Christodoulou will drive for the Fortec team in the championship that has provided a stepping stone to Formula One for the likes of former World Champions Nigel Mansell, Damon Hill and James Hunt.

David Coulthard and current F1 driver Jensen Button also came through Formula 3 and Christodoulou knows he has a chance to follow them.

"The racing is close and the cars are 'mini' Grand Prix cars. The F1 teams monitor this category closely," he said.

The F3 season consists of 10 events with seven in the UK and three held in Belgium, Germany and Portugal.

The opening meeting is at Oulton Park on 13 April.
