De la Cour's engine failed on the home straight |
Jersey's motorcycle racers suffered a catalogue of setbacks at Snetterton race track in Norfolk over the weekend. Chris Hamelin, whose bike chain snapped, was the best island performer when he accumulated a sixth and two seventh places in the Rookie 600 class. Luke de la Cour finished 20th in his first race, losing nine places when his bike cut-out 300m from the finish line. He went on to finish ninth and 11th in the remaining two Powerbike class races. Rob Currie, one of just two Jersey riders not hampered by technical issues, dropped from 12th to 24th place when he was given a time penalty for overtaking under a yellow flag. He also notched up a 22nd, 15th and 14th. Gary Hotton raced battered and bruised after crashing heavily on his test circuits. His best result was an 18th finish. Nick Daghorn missed all of the weekend's Powerbike races when his gearbox broke during testing on Friday. With his regular 600cc class not racing at Snetterton, Steve de la Cour joined the others in the Powerbikes class, where he placed 30th, 21st and 28th. Tom Vautier, after overcoming engine failure, finished 19th, 17th and 20th, but had the satisfaction of beating the editor of Superbike magazine in the Rookie 600 event.
