Motorsport in Northern Ireland is to get 100,000 of Government funding to help improve safety standards.

Sports Minister Edwin Poots said he would consult groups involved in two and four-wheeled racing before deciding how the cash would be allocated.

The announcement was made at the launch of the 2008 Kennedy Group International North-West 200 motorbike races which will be staged on 17 May.

"I want to make sure our courses are as safe as possible," said Poots.
