Sir Jackie Stewart has been re-elected as president and director of the British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC). The BRDC, which owns Silverstone and runs the British Grand Prix, voted at an extraordinary general meeting for Stewart to continue in both roles.
Stewart said: "My integrity was attacked by a number of members of the club. I have defended it and am pleased that I received support to continue."
Former BRDC chairman Ray Bellm, sacked this year, led the case against him.
Bellm was sacked as chairman after signing a five-year extension to Silverstone's British Grand Prix contract.
Stewart, the 65-year-old three-time world champion, objected to Bellm signing that deal without consulting the BRDC and he was subsequently voted out of his position. Bellm did not take that lightly and has spent recent weeks mobilising
supporters against Stewart.
Bellm has always insisted his campaign was not levelled personally at Stewart, claiming he wanted to modernise the BRDC to help the redevelopment of Silverstone.
However Stewart, backed by high-profile BRDC figures such as the Duke of Kent, Sir Stirling Moss and Sir Frank Williams, thought otherwise and fought hard to defend his reputation.
Stuart Rolt, chairman of the BRDC board, said that all members should support the decision.
"We now hope that the recent period of disruption and damaging PR for the club will come to an end," he said.
