Da Matta makes Champ Cars return
Cristiano Da Matta
Da Matta was dumped by Toyota midway through last season
Ex-Formula One driver Cristiano da Matta has secured a return to Champ Cars after being axed by Toyota.

The 31-year-old Brazilian, who won the Champ Car title in 2002, will return to the United States-based series this season with PKV Racing.

"I am very excited to be back in Champ Cars. This is a series I have raced in in the past and had not only good results, but lots of fun," he said.

"It was an easy decision to come back to America after racing in Europe."

Da Matta's move to PKV dashes the hopes of Bjorn Wirdheim.

The Swede, who won the Formula 3000 championship in 2003 before a season testing for Jaguar last year, was all set to join the team prior to Da Matta's decision to return.
