Kanaan also scored victories in Phoenix and Texas this season |
Tony Kanaan wrapped up his third Indy Racing League victory of the season at the Firestone Indy 200 on Saturday. The Andretti Green Racing driver moved ahead of team-mate Dan Wheldon at the Nashville Speedway with 19 laps to go when the Briton's rear tyre deflated.
Sam Hornish Jr made a move to pass the Brazilian on the backstretch of the final lap but he lost his momentum.
The Team Penske driver had to settle for third ahead of Brazilian team-mate Helio Castroneves.
Pole-sitter Buddy Rice led for 52 laps before a tactical pit stop by Wheldon saw him lose the lead.
The Briton's strategy on lap 165 of not opting for fresh tyres propelled him into the lead.
But his tyre came off just three laps later and he finished down in 13th.
Fellow Briton Darren Manning finished in fourth followed by rookie Townsend Bell.
Kanaan's victory saw him stay at the top of the overall driver standings.
