| Kirkland beats Devers to gold Golden girl Kirkland is congratulated by Devers Anjanette Kirkland won the women's 100m hurdles title at the World Championships in Edmonton, beating American compatriot Gail Devers into silver. Kirkland, who adds the outdoor gold to the world indoor title, left Devers well behind, recording an impressive time of 12.42 seconds. Gail Devers was forced to settle for silver, finishing with a time of 12.54.
After a long delay, Olga Shishigina (12.58) of Kazakhstan was awarded the bronze, despite having the same time as Bulgarian Svetla Dimitrova. Kirkland, formally an 800m runner, admitted she was delighted with her win after the race. "I am really pleased with the way I ran - all the hard work now seems worth it," said Kirkland.
