| Limo captures 5000m gold Richard Limo comes home ahead of Ali Saidi-Sief (l) Richard Limo of Kenya won the men's 5000m gold medal at the World Championships in Edmonton. Limo's finishing speed proved too much for Algerian Ali Saidi-Sief who took the silver, as he had done in the Olympics in Sydney last year. Ethiopian Million Wolde came home third to take the bronze. Limo finished in a time of 13 minutes 00.77 seconds with Saidi-Sief just behind at 13:02.16. Limo's Kenyan team-mate Sammy Kipketer set the early pace but was caught by the leading group at 3000m. Saidi-Sief took up the lead about a kilometre out and kicked form home on the back straight. Limo was the only athlete to stay with him and the Kenyan pounced on the final bend. It was the first major medal for the 20-year-old, who came 10th at the Olympics last year. |
