Kenya's Rueben Kosgei raced away from his rivals down the finishing stretch to win the men's 3,000m steeplechase at the World Championships in Edmonton.

Kosgei finished in a time of eight minutes 15.16 seconds, with Morocco's Ali Ezzine making a late surge to take silver.

A second Kenyan, Bernard Barmasai, suffered a nasty spiking on the final lap and the current world record holder could only take bronze.

Team-mate Raymond Yator stumbled at the last water hazard and came in seventh.

From the start, there was evidence of team-work as the Kenyans made a collective attempt to break the field's rhythm.

But they faced a strong challenge from the Moroccans and Spaniards before Kosgeir stamped his authority on the race.
