| Kosgei soars to steeplechase gold Kosgei late burst was too much for the field Kenya's Rueben Kosgei raced away from his rivals down the finishing stretch to win the men's 3,000m steeplechase at the World Championships in Edmonton. Kosgei finished in a time of eight minutes 15.16 seconds, with Morocco's Ali Ezzine making a late surge to take silver. A second Kenyan, Bernard Barmasai, suffered a nasty spiking on the final lap and the current world record holder could only take bronze. Team-mate Raymond Yator stumbled at the last water hazard and came in seventh. From the start, there was evidence of team-work as the Kenyans made a collective attempt to break the field's rhythm. But they faced a strong challenge from the Moroccans and Spaniards before Kosgeir stamped his authority on the race. |
